Macquarie University’s E-Learning Centre Of Excellence (MELCOE) is an international focal point for e-learning infrastructure and standards development. The Centre consolidates Macquarie University’s position at the leading edge of best practice in e-learning. MELCOE is a recognised leader in implementing global standards and specifications for learning technology.
Through collaborations with educational organisations, government and commercial partners, MELCOE fosters the adoption of the next generation of distributed e-learning and information systems. MELCOE’s unique approach fosters innovation and creativity in e-learning software development and implementation driven by open standards.
MELCOE recognises that no one e-learning system can do everything. The central challenge ahead is unifying different learning and information technologies within a common framework.
LAMS has won a Gold Award at the IMS Learning Impact Awards on May 13th, 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. This award recognises the impact of LAMS and the LAMS Community as a significant innovation in teaching and learning against a competitive global field.
LAMS (Learning Activity Management System) and the LAMS Community with Macquarie University and the LAMS Foundation took the top prize and first place in the Australian Regional Learning Impact Awards from IMS Global Learning Consortium, jointly sponsored by DEEWR. LAMS provides educators with a visual drag-and-drop environment for authoring and sharing Learning Designs, along with a Learning environment for deployment with students, and a teacher monitoring environment for tracking student progress.
The 3rd International Conference was held in Sydney (4th-5th December, 2008) after the success of the two previous International LAMS Conferences in 2006 and 2007 and two European Conferences (2007 - Greenwich and 2008 – Cadiz). The focus of this conference was on the variety of perspectives on Learning Design and the conference was successfully concluded and was well recevied.
An additional workshop is scheduled for Feb 2009 at MQ University for those who missed the events or would like to refresh/clarify their understanding of the Shibboleth Federation.
This conference will focus on learning designs implemented with the use of ICTs and how flexible learning opportunities for students can be developed through the use of technology.
